Remembrance Day Nov

On the 11th hour on the 11 day of the 11th month (November) each year we stop and have a 2 minute silence to think about all the soldiers who have died fighting for their country in WW1, WW2 and other conflicts. This year we all joined together outside at 11am to show our respect and remember.

This year we also had various Armed Forces join us to tell us all about why we Remember and the Service they have served in. They also discussed their many medals and why they were wearing them.

We  were joined by our own Chair of Governors (Gavin Tuach- Navy), the British Legion (Chas Dale- Army- Lt Col (R) EC DALE OBE Chairman of Stafford Branch Royal British Legion) a Standard Bearer (Army), a Regimental Mascot- Watchman the Staffordshire Bull Terrier with Greg Hedges (Army) Watchman's handler and a Veteran from the RAF.

We learnt all about Remembrance Day or Armistice Day as it is also known.

We discovered it was first held in 1919, one year after the First World War had ended and people to this day lay wreaths of poppies on statues and monuments to remember who dies for us. The poppy represents the flowers that grew on the battlefields after War had ended.

We were shown by the Royal British Legion the Poppy Appeal and the importance of the money that we raise each year for the men and women who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. Our school Council also told us a little about the good job they have been doing to sell the merchandise.

We also learnt about the Purple Poppies worn to remember all the animals who died during the Wars.

We learnt a song to help us remember

and we listened to the ‘Last Post’- a traditional piece of music played on a Bugle for this special day.
