  • So, what a busy week we've all had!! 🙂

    Fri 03 May 2024

    and the sun made an appearance which is an added bonus 🙂 

     

    Starting with our Year 4 campers - they all had an amazing time, tried so many new activities, became more independent and resilience, didn't get much sleep, but had a great experience which we are sure they will remember for many years to come 🙂 A massive shout out to Mr Atkinson and Mrs Hepple for supervising the children 🙂 

     

    • Year 2 had an action-packed day over at Forest Schools on Monday 
    • Year 3 enjoyed Tri Golf with Progressive Sport 
    • On Wednesday our Year 5/6 Tag Rugby made us all super proud with their overall 4th place in the Tag Rugby Tournament - a big shout out to Miss Young and Mr Davies who went along to supervise the children 🙂 
    • Friday - Mr Burton from Blessed William Howard popped over for a bit of Year 6 transition and to get to know the children who are moving across in September 🙂 

     

    Looking ahead to next week: - 

    It's another busy one, so hold on to your hats 🙂

     

    • BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 🙂
    • Tuesday @ 9am you are all invited into the school to watch our GOTTA DANCE performance - the performance will last approximately 10 mins - we do hope you can join us.  Come straight to the hall.  No mobile phones. 
    • Year 2 Progressive Sports on Tuesday so children can come to school in their PE Kits 
    • After Schools Clubs start this week on Tuesday and Thursday only - prompt collection at 4pm 
    • On Tuesday we have our Year 1 Watch Me Learn Sessions @ 2pm - please come to the main office.  Leave mobile phones at home and we request only 1 adult attend due to limited space.  Also, only parents from Year 1! 
    • Wednesday @ 9am we have our first PTFA meeting to organise our SUMMER FAYRE - for this event to happen, we need your SUPPORT AND HELP!!  Please attend the meeting if you can help or have any ideas.   Mrs Banks and Miss Young will be hosting the meeting and we have BISCUITS!! 
    • Various Road Safety Sessions for various year groups will take place on THURSDAY - separate letters have been sent out with details and consents 
    • On Thursday it's the turn of our YEAR 2 class for Watch Me Learn @ 2pm.  Please leave mobile phones at school and we request only 1 adult per child due to limited space.  Only open to Year 2 parents.

  • So, this week at a glance: -

    Fri 26 Apr 2024
    • We started the week with a 'St George's Day' assembly 
    • Year 3 had a great time over at Forest Schools which enhanced their Anglo-Saxon topic.  They designed and made artefacts like those from the Staffordshire Hoard from clay, made mead (non alcoholic of course 🙂).  They also made oat cakes and discussed King Alfred the Great.   
    • Year 4 enjoyed Tri Golf during their progressive sports time on Tuesday afternoon 
    • Our Reading Ambassadors spent the morning receiving training on how to promote reading across their year group and school - watch this space 🙂 
    • Year 6 had a reflective morning on Wednesday discussing managing their feelings in readiness for SATS in a couple of weeks 
    • Fishing Experience - The sun shone, a lovely location over at Barlaston and after a bit of learning about what fish can be found in the canal, the bait they eat and rods, they were raring to go!!!!   All had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  I think even Miss Young enjoyed it secretly 🙂 ha x 
    • Miss Young and her dance club represented Flash Ley at 'Gotta Dance' on Thursday evening - a special thank you to both Miss Young and Mrs Sargeant and any parents who came along to support us - we were awesome 🙂 

     

    Looking ahead to next week: - 

    • Year 2 have Forest School on Monday so can come into school in old clothes and must bring a change of footwear 🙂 
    • Year 4 at Standon Bowers (Monday - Wednesday) - see last minute reminders below 
    • Year 3 Progressive Sports on Tuesday afternoon - children can wear their PE kit on this day 
    • Year 5/6 Tag Rugby on Wednesday after school (separate letter to select children has been sent)

    Additional dates for the diary: - 

    • On Tuesday 7th May @ 9am our Dance Club are performing their DANCE for parents in the hall - if you'd like to come along to watch them, come straight to the school hall.  Leave mobile phones at home 🙂 
    • PTA meeting on Wednesday 8th May @ 9am - planning for the SUMMER FAYRE - we need more volunteers to allow this event to go ahead - if you can help, come along for a chat and a biscuit or 3!!!  🙂 
    • SUMMER FAYRE - Wednesday 3rd July @ 3.30pm 

     

    Year 4 camp arrangements are as follows: - 

    • All children going to camp are required to bring a packed lunch with them for Monday 🙂 
    • Parents to meet Mr Atkinson at Standon Bowers between 10.30am and 11am.  You will be required to DROP AND GO!! 🙂 
    • On Wednesday, parents to collect from Standon Bowers between 1.30pm - 2pm.  Children can then go straight home from this time - please do not return them to school as Mr Atkinson will be at Standon Bowers for the rest of the afternoon 
    • If you have not returned your child's medical form - this needs to be done as a matter of urgency 

     

    Year 4 children not going to camp are expected to be in school at normal start time on Monday and attend each day as normal.   Line up with Year 3 at the beginning of each day. 

  • And just like that it's FRIDAY!!!  We've had a very sporty week this week 🙂

    So, this week:- 

    • We started our week with an assembly about the importance of 'friendship' which was delivered by our Mental Health Lead, Mrs Alison Lloyd 
    • Year 6 had a very productive day over at Forest School 
    • Year 5 enjoyed their first go at 'Tri Golf' 🙂 
    • Our footballers attended several tournaments this week, braved the weather, won some, lost some BUT represented our school and we are all so very proud of you all 🙂                         My first 'big shout' is to all those staff and parents who supported the event                                                              My second 'big shout' is to Miss Young for organising everyone 🙂 and more importantly washing the football kit each night ready for the next tournament on the following day - you are a super star Miss Young.  

     

    Looking ahead to next week:- 

    • It's the turn of Year 3 on Monday to spend the day over at Forest School.  Old clothes and a change of footwear is needed 
    • On Tuesday, Year 4 have Progressive Sports - so can wear PE kits all day 
    • Also on Tuesday, our Reading Ambassadors are receiving training so they can continue to promote the importance of reading within FL 
    • On Wednesday, Year 6 have a special visitor who will talk to them about 'managing their feelings around SATS' 🙂 
    • On Thursday, Miss Young, Mrs Sargeant and the Dance Gang will be representing FL at 'The Gatehouse' - we can't wait to see the dance (in assembly) in a few weeks time 🙂

    A reminder that we still need to recruit a few more volunteers for our PTFA please - as we need more help to enable us to run our Summer Fayre this year 🙂  

    Please catch Mrs Banks or Miss Young or our parent governors, Mr Tuach, Mr Parker or Mrs Capewell.   Without help, the Summer Fayre will be much smaller - we want to make it BIGGER this year 🙂

  • Welcome back to the SUMMER TERM!!!

    Summer Term Dates have been posted on the website, sent via MM and also updated on the school calendar.  More details to follow on each event, nearer the time. 

     

    You should have also received a copy of your child's class newsletter which contains lots of information in relation to learning over the Summer Term. 

     

    So, this week: - 

    • Reception had an action-packed day over at Forest Schools 
    • Year 6 had fun with Progressive Sport on Tuesday afternoon having a go at 'Tri Golf' 🙂
    • On Wednesday, everyone looked super smart for the School Photos 
    • Thanks to those Year 4 parents who attended the camp information session on Thursday after school - we hope the info provided will help you to gain an insight into what lovely activities the children will be getting up to as well as kit required etc.   A reminder that final payment is due in the next few weeks. 

     

    Looking ahead to next week: -

    • Year 6 Forest Schools all day on Monday - old clothes, change of footwear required 
    • Several football tournaments next week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) separate letters have been sent to relevant children/year groups 
    • Year 5 have Progressive Sports on Tuesday afternoon - children can come to school in their PE kit 

     

    A shout out to you all!!!

    We would like to set up a PTA again within Flash Ley to raise much needed funds for our school.  This will then enable us to offer discounted prices on school trips, have fun days (magician, bouncy castle) etc but WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help us.  If you are interested in helping out at events and working with us to raise money, then please catch Mrs Banks or Miss Young and we will give you a few more details and pop your name on our list 🙂

  • We made it to the end of the Spring Term!! 🙂

    This week at a glance: - 

     

    • Year 1 and Year 2 had fun over at Forest School on Monday 
    • Everyone who attended Film Night had a great time - thanks to staff who stayed behind to man the 'cinema' 
    • Year 5 enjoyed Progressive Sport on Tuesday afternoon
    • A big shout out to everyone who supported and attended the Easter Fayre – we have raised an amazing £765 for school fund.  We couldn't have done this without everyone's support 🙂
    • A big 'thank you to our parent volunteers who came along to man the Easter stalls.  Very much appreciated.  

     

    • All classes spent time with our 'Dog Smart Workshop'' on Tuesday - this session provided an awareness of safety around dogs 
    • We finished the week with the Easter Bonnet Parade - there were so many fantastic entries 🙂 Well done to everyone who entered.

     

    We have all said a fond farewell and good luck to Mrs Rogers who is moving on to pastures new.  We wish her lots of success and happiness in her new role.  I will be taking on the SENCO role in the Summer Term.  

     

    Looking ahead to after Easter: -

     

    • Children return to school on Monday 8th April 2024 
    • Reception have Forest Schools on Monday.   Children need to come to school in old clothes and a change of footwear (i.e., wellies) 
    • Year 4 swimming as normal - a reminder to leave all jewellery at home please so that it doesn't get lost 
    • Year 6 have Progressive Sports on Tuesday afternoon.  This half term we are trying out 'Tri Golf' 🙂 Children can come to school in their PE kit 
    • On Wednesday we have the school photographer in school so ALL children need to come to school in their FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM please 🙂 Sibling photographs will be taken for those children in school only (i.e., Nursery through to Year 6)
    • Dance After School Club on Thursday until 4pm (for those children learning their dance for the Gotta Dance performance) 

     

    Have a lovely Easter break.  Hopefully we will get lots of lovely weather so we can all get out to explore 🙂

  • Another week flies by 🙂

    We've received a few complaints from our new neighbours in relation to their drives being blocked by cars dropping off at school!  Please be mindful that when you are parking your car not to block any driveways.  Also, please do not allow children to run across our neighbour's lawns as this is causing damage to their shrubs and daffodil bulbs

     

    • Science Assembly was enjoyed by everyone - ask your child about the 'Elephant Toothpaste' 🙂 
    • Year 3 had fun over at Forest Schools 
    • Thanks to everyone who attended Parents Evening - it was lovely to see so many of you.  We hope you found the longer appointment slot better and the focused conversation in relation to next steps for your child 🙂 
    • Year 2 enjoyed Progressive Sport on Tuesday 
    • Reception children met the Dentist on Wednesday 
    • Thanks to those parents who joined our Year 3 'Watch Me Learn' session on Thursday.  We hope you found the session useful. 
    • Year 3 and 4 represented FL at the Tag Rugby tournament on Wednesday - everyone had lots of fun and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Well done to you all 
    • Red Nose Day was celebrated on Friday 🙂 

     

    Looking ahead to the last week of the Spring Term: - 

    • Year 1 have Forest Schools on Monday morning and Year 2 on Monday afternoon - old clothes and a change of footwear required please 
    • Year 4 swimming on Monday as normal - it's fun week 🙂 
    • On Monday we have our film night for Year 1 - Year 6 (only available to those children who have paid and have a ticket).  Prompt collection from the school hall at 5.15pm.  ALL children need to be collected by an adult.  
    • Year 5 have Progressive Sports on Tuesday afternoon - they can come to school in their PE Kit 
    • Dog Smart Workshops being held on Tuesday (children only) 
    • EYFS Easter Stay N Play on Tuesday @ 9.30am - 10.30am (parents invited) 
    • Easter Fayre on Wednesday from 3.30pm - 4.15pm - lots of fun activities and goodies on offer so bring some pennies with you 🙂 If at all possible bring change rather than notes 🙂 
    • To the end the week, on Friday we have our Easter Bonnet Parade @ 9am (children only) and our School Council are organising a PJ Non-uniform Day in exchange for £1 🙂

    • Year 1 and Reception had a productive session over in Forest School on Monday 

     

    • Our Science Ambassadors had a fantastic day of training on Tuesday by Dr Lorraine Coghill at entrust. All children participated in a range of experiments, enjoyed talked from guest Scientists and developed their presenting skills. They are very excited to start up a Science club in Summer term. 

     

    • Year 3 had an enjoyable session with Progressive Sports 

     

    • Thanks to those parents who came along to the 'Watch Me Learn' session on Thursday - we hope you found the session useful 🙂

     

    Looking ahead to next week: - 

     

    • Year 4 and Year 5 have Forest Schools on Monday.  Warm old clothes and a change of footwear please 

     

    • Year 4 have Progressive Sports on Tuesday afternoon so can come to school in their PE kits 

     

    • Thursday is WORLD BOOK DAY (separate details have been issued in relation to this) 

     

    • On Thursday, Year 4 have their 'Watch Me Learn' session @ 9am.  A reminder to leave mobile phones at home.  Due to limited space in the classroom, this offer is open to one parent per child only. 

     

    • Friday is Non-Uniform Day in exchange for an Easter Egg/Chocolate for our Chocolate Tombola for our Easter Fayre. 

     

    A reminder that the closing date for FILM NIGHT is on: - Wednesday 13th March 2024.  Payment via Parent Pay.

     

    Parents Evening Letters have also been issued.

    Parents evenings will now be: - 

     

    Monday 11th March @ 3.30pm - 5pm and Thursday 14th March @ 4.30pm - 6.30pm 🙂 for YEAR 1 - YEAR 6 

     

    Nursery/Reception Parents Evening will remain on: -

     

    Wednesday 13th March @ 3.30pm - 5pm and Thursday 14th March @ 4.30pm - 6.30pm 🙂

     

    Letters will be issued at the end of next week, so keep your eyes peeled.

     

    School Photographs will now be on 10th April 2024 - all children to come to school in full school uniform for the day 🙂 

     

    We hope you all had an enjoyable half term break :) 

     

    So, this week looked a bit like this: - 

    • Everyone had fun dancing the night away at the Valentines Disco - a big thank you to staff for manning this 🙂
    • Year 2 had a visit from LEAF Education on Monday.  They discussed and discovered the story of wheat from field to fork. 

    This involved looking at what plants need to grow, the crops that farmers grow and what food items these crops are the main ingredients of.  They also looked at wheat stems, took the grains out and found them to make flour.

    • Year 6 and Year 2 had fun over at Forest Schools 
    • Year 1 enjoyed their afternoon with Progressive Sport 
    • A big 'thank you' to our Year 6 parents who came along to our 'Watch Me Learn' session on Thursday - it was lovely to see so many of you - we do hope you enjoyed the experience!  🙂
    • Also, a big 'thank you' for those parents who attended our APP workshop on Friday morning - we hope the information provided was helpful in keeping your children safe on the internet at home 

     

    Looking ahead to next week: - 

    • Year 1 and Reception class have Forest Schools on Monday - children need to wear old warm clothes and MUST BRING A CHANGE OF FOOTWEAR (wellies are ideal) 
    • Swimming for Year 4 as normal - a reminder to leave jewellery at home 
    • Year 3 have Progressive Sports on Tuesday afternoon - children can come to school in their PE kits 
    • On Thursday it's the turn of Year 5 for their 'Watch Me Learn' sessions.   Parents are invited along to this session.  Please report to the office and leave mobile devices at home.  The session will start promptly at 9am.  We ask that only one parent per child attends due to limited space 🙂
