Maths

Spring Term

The first unit we are learning about is time. We will become experts at the days of the week, months of the year and how to tell the time using an analogue clock (o'clock and half past). We will also look at times of the day we do certain events like getting up, breakfast, go to school, playtime etc.

Our challenge is to remember the date and month of our birthday.

After Time we will move onto Place Value where we will be counting, reading and writing numbers  to 40, counting forwards and backwards from any number as well as representing these numbers using objects and pictorial representations. We will also look at 1 more and 1 less from a given number.

Following on from Place Value we will be learning and practicing how to add and subtract one and two digit numbers to 20 (including 20) (Number) as well as interpreting mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (-) and equals (=) and solving one step problems or missing number problems.

After that we will move onto Length and height (Measurement), Multiplication and Division (Number) and Fractions– half and quarter.

In Maths we are always developing different skills, techniques and problem solving strategies through various practical activities.

There are also some lovely maths games on this website:

Autumn Term

This Term in maths we are investigating and problem solving.

Children will develop their under-standing of place value (counting forwards/backwards and 1 more/1 less) and explore the adding and subtracting of 1  & 2 digit numbers . They will be using number bonds to 10 and challenging themselves for number bonds to 20 using skills taught and patterns they have noticed. We will also be looking at Geometry: 2D & 3D shape and recalling and recording multiplication of the 10, 5 and 2 times table in verbal and written forms.
