Forest School Day Aut 1

As part of the Year 1 Topics Where I live and Everyday Materials we experienced a fun day which included:

Habitats - an acknowledgment of needs.

Who we are and what we need to live, grow and thrive.

We looked at land based, flight based and water based creatures and identified if the needs differ.

We explored each habitat and mini beasts/animals we could find.

We built habitats (a home):  nests for birds, small shelters for creatures, hedgehogs, etc,

We also looked at the Maslow rule of 3- most animals need:

3 minutes           Air to breath

3 hours              Shelter from the cold weather or heat of

the day in the form of a shelter

                         protective structure, fur, clothing, thick

skin/ layer of fat or similar

3 days               Water that’s safe to drink

3 weeks             Food that’s safe to eat

3 months          Companionship, someone of something to

                        talk to

Materials- We had to find different materials from the schools grounds and identify what the material is and what other objects are made from the same material. We then decided on their uses.

Last of all we were introduced to sparks (fine motor skills) and we had adult support to light a single fire to toast marshmallows and have s’mores (Campfire treat).
