E-Safety

Safeguarding our children is a priority here at Flash ley. An integral part of this is protecting them online, when using computers, tablets and other technology. E-safety refers to being safe whilst using technology. The internet has become an integral part of our and our children's lives. It is therefore important that parents and carers are aware of the way in which their children use the internet; talk to them about the risk of going online and assist them to use technology safely and responsibly.

Why does online safety matter in Early Years?

Ofcom’s ‘Children and Parents Media Use and Attitudes Report’ (2019) found that:

  • 1% of 3-4 year olds have their own smartphone and 19% have their own tablet
  • 52% of 3-4 year olds go online for an average of nearly 9 hours a week
  • 45% of 3-4 year olds use YouTube

Staff at Flash Ley know how important it is to help safeguard our pupils and how important it is that early years children are learning about the world around them and how to keep themselves safe online. Below are some links to support you in teaching E-safety at home. You can also find all the information you need to know here: https://www.flashley.staffs.sch.uk/e-safety/ on our school E-Safety page.
