Poetry Week 2021

Poetry week came to Flash Ley on Monday 4th October!

Poetry is part of the National Curriculum and even comes into the Early Years Framework.

All pupils have worked on poetry throughout the week. We even had a visit from a published poet, Pep, on Tuesday who worked with all classes and delivered a masterclass with select children.

Key Stage 1 and 2 also took part in a National Poetry Competition. Fingers crossed we win!

Masterclass

Pep also gave some of our pupils a masterclass in composition. They composed, edited and improved their own works.

The theme they worked around was a box and what they might put into it.

Poetry In The EYFS

Our Early Years poetry journey begins with the classic literature we love to sing. We explored their meaning and played games around our favourite rhymes.

Nursery explored 3 Blind Mice by not only learning the song, but talking about our senses and relying on other senses when our sight was missing (using blindfolds).

Reception were given the task of looking after their very own Humpty Dumpty for the week. We discussed being a kind friend to our egg and how we would keep it safe before rehearsing Humpty Dumpty with our eggs on a wall at the end of the week.
