Weekly Summary 6 November 2026

Welcome back to another action packed, fun filled half term.

This term is always lovely as it's the run up to Christmas which we absolutely love at Flash Ley 🙂 We hope you had a lovely half term 🙂

The weather has suddenly gone much colder so a reminder that children must bring a warm coat and wear sensible shoes as they will be outside at break and lunchtimes

So, our School Council are busy deciding which presents they would like to buy from their 'Break the Rules' Non-Uniform Day to donate to Birmingham Children's Hospital (cancer unit) - a charity close to our FL family ❤️

We raised £114 which will be spent on Xmas pressies from the list that they have sent over.

If you would like to donate further to this amazing cause, please do let us know.

We will let you know what gifts they purchase in the coming weeks.

A special thank you to Miss Bunn and our amazing School Council.

So, this week looked a bit like this: -

  • Year 4 swimmers were amazing as always
  • Reception had a fun filled morning over at Forest School covering 'fantastic festivals' which at the moment are Bonfire Night/Fireworks and Diwali 🙂 Everyone had a very excitable morning.
  • Year 5 enjoyed their afternoon at Forest School.  They were introduced to various states of water, liquid, gas and solid.  In teams, using cooking stoves, they carried out an experiment finding out how long it took to complete melt a very large block of ice, taking temperatures along the way and also weighing the block of ice.  An extremely productive afternoon was had by everyone in Year 5 🙂
  • Year 6 enjoyed their curriculum day at Shrewsbury Prison enhancing further their topic work - these experiences really do bring learning in the classroom to life
  • Thanks to those Year 4 parents who came along to support our very first 'Reading Cafe' - we hoped you enjoyed this time sharing a book with the children 🙂 Lots and lots of positive feedback 🙂
  • Year 3 & 4 enjoyed their 'X-hail' relaxation session.  They explored the 'anger' emotion and experimented in how our breathing can help to calm us down.  We talked about how our anger is like a 'firework'. It's what we see but there is always something underneath
  • Year 5 had a super day on Thursday welcoming their Greek Visitor to school and enhancing their topic learning and bringing it to life - a fantastic experience was had by all
  • Our Happiness Heroes had their third training session on Thursday. They talked about: - the importance of movement to boost endorphins to support wellbeing and happiness; being aware of your own feelings as well as others; recognising how we are feeling and paying attention; sharing feelings with others; using senses and a grounding technique to things you can see, feel, hear, smell and taste.                                Another amazing session - it's the last one next week then these amazing 'Happiness Heroes' will start to work on our playgrounds with other children - how exciting 🙂
  • Thanks to those Year 6 Parents who took time out of a busy day to come along to our Camp Information Evening - we hope the information given will help you to prepare and make this time go as smoothly as possible.  If you do need any support with outdoor equipment, please do let us know as we have a number of water-proof jackets/trousers etc we can lend to you.
  • Time 4 Sport on Friday was the turn of our wonderful Year 2s who developed their 'orienteering skills' - they were amazing and managed to find each of the clues with the directions given

Looking ahead to next week: -

  • Wednesday, we have our 'Remembrance Assembly' with some very special visitors to our school - this assembly is for children only
