Weekly Summary 23 October 2026
And just like that we've made it to the end of the first half term!!
We say a very fond farewell and happy retirement to Mrs Hepple who has worked at Flash Ley for nearly 27 years!! On behalf of our whole FL family, I would like to say a massive thank you for all you have done for the hundreds of children you have helped over your time at Flash Ley. We will all miss you so much!! Time to concentrate on you now, have the longest and happiest retirement, Mrs Hepple. 🙂
For those of you who took part in the Xmas Fundraiser Activity, your designs have now been sent back out to you - so check bags. A reminder that you can get FREE DELIVERY to school if you order before 2nd November 2026. On the paper handed out is a QR code to enable you to order easily.
DRUM ROLL!!! Our Friends of Flash Ley are using their 'pot of gold' to pay for our 'Happy Minds Mural' which is being commissioned in November by a local artist - so watch this space 🙂 As you all are aware; our Happy Minds Initiative is part of our Inclusion Strategy. We can't wait for you all to see the finished mural 🙂

So, this week looked a bit like this: -
A big 'shout out' to Asda who delivered lots of pumpkins for our EYFS/KS1 Pumpkin Picking. Don't forget to decorate your pumpkin and send over pictures to Miss Young. The winner will be announced after half term - we can't wait to see all of your creations.
EYFS/KS1 had a lovely time going out to pick their pumpkin even though it was raining - that added to the excitement. Thanks to Miss Young for organising this amazing opportunity 🙂
- Year 4 swimmers are still impressing both Mrs Locke and I. Less buoyancy aids this week and more children swimming for the whole of the width without popping their legs down on the floor - well done to you all
- Year 2 spent the day over at Forest Schools - even though the weather wasn't great they still had lots of fun 🙂 The children investigated materials around the school, experimented with moulding clay, learned how to twist natural fibres into strong cord, and worked in teams to build and test houses made from different materials. They discovered how to choose the most suitable materials for different purposes, thinking carefully about strength, waterproofing and durability.
- Year 1 and Reception enjoyed their relaxation session on Tuesday which centred around lots of spooky yoga poses and talking about various emotions that we can experience during the day. These sessions are part of our 'wellbeing and inclusion' strategy which we are rolling out across this academic year.
- Many thanks to our Year 3 parents who came along to support our Year 3 School Council Coffee Morning on Wednesday. We hoped you enjoyed your breakfast and time with our lovely school council.
- Friday was a 'Break the Rules Day' raising money for our School Council Pot of Gold. Children also enjoyed tucking into the Special Halloween Menu. Many thanks to our Catering Team for organising this and decorating our lovely dining room as well.
- Year 3 enjoyed their afternoon of Team Building with our Time 4 Sport enrichment activities - a lovely end to a busy half term 🙂
- We also held our first ERIC of this academic year. Thanks to parents from EYFS/KS1 who spent time reading with their child in class. It was such a lovely atmosphere and a purposeful buzz 🙂
