Weekly Summary 9 October 2026

It's Friday again 🙂

Getting a tad cooler now so could we please request that children come to school with a coat 🙂

A polite reminder that aggression against staff is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!!  We will support and help all families and members of the community but we won't be spoken to in a rude and intimidating way.  Neither will we be shouted at in an inappropriate manner.  Thanks for your continued support in this.

We started the week with a Friends of FL meeting to welcome new ideas and thoughts - the meeting was extremely productive and lots of new ideas for the further were discussed - so watch this space 🙂 A big thank you to those parents who took time out of a busy day to come along and support this lovely little group

Our whole school assembly focused on 'keeping each other safe during the school day' and being kind to everyone 🙂 we will be watching to see who is kind during break and lunchtimes and shows acts of kindness during the week

Year 4 were amazing at swimming again - a reminder NO JEWELLERY pls

We welcomed Rock Steady Music to our assembly on Tuesday.  Rich the musician from Rock Steady Music was totally amazing, fun and brilliant.  All children experienced his session for 90 mins and were introduced to the drums, keyboard, bass and electric guitar.  Some children were even lucky enough to make a band and perform on the stage.

The letter advertising 'group music lessons' has gone out as which we are hoping to add to our enrichment offer in the New Year - a Xmas present idea maybe.  The cut off to express your interest is next Friday and we do need at least 20 pupils who are interested for these lessons to be viable.

Selected members of our School Council went across to Rising Brook Church on Tuesday with Miss Bunn to deliver some lovely art activities with members of the Church.  They helped the older folks make jewellery boxes, bug hotels and snowmen decorations.  It was such a lovely event and we received so many beautiful comments - thanks Miss Bunn for organising 🙂

If you know of any organisations who would like us to visit, please do let Miss Bunn know and we can get in touch with them 🙂

Forest Schools was the turn of Year 3 and Year 5 who spent a productive part of the day enhancing their topic outdoors - everyone had a lovely time; the weather was kind as well

Year 5 covered all things 'Greece'.  They talked all things 'wheat' and foraged for plants.  Children ended the session making bread out of wheat using herbs and olives as flavorings.

Year 3 had a game of 'Tug a War' to help the children to understand 'forces' - they had a great time 🙂 They also participated in 'compass work'

X-hail was the turn of Year 4 and Year 2.  Year 2 used their animal breathing techniques and then practiced using the breaths to calm their mind and body.  Year 4 investigated how their breath affects their 'focus' in everyday life.

Our After School Clubs started this week and it was lovely to see so many children engage in the activities.  We are so lucky that staff give up their own time to run these sessions.  A big thank you to them all

Year 2 held their Spelling Workshop on Thursday which was well attended.  We hope you found the session useful and the children loved having special visitors into their classroom 💥

Our Happiness Heroes had their first training session on Thursday.  They brainstormed lots of ideas to help them develop their role and help ensure everyone at FL is 'happy'.  The next session is next Thursday 💕

Year 1 had a lovely enrichment activity working on Teamwork and Leadership Skills with Time 4 Sport - these sessions are so engaging and enjoyable for the children 🙂

Looking ahead to next week: -

*House Captain Assembly on Monday - I wonder who will be our new House Captains 🤔

  • Our Mental Health Lunchtime Drop In will be open on Monday for our Year 5 & 6 pupils from 12.15pm - 1.15pm in the Discovery Den - this was extremely popular last time 🙂
  • Year 6 have Forest Schools all day on Tuesday - children to come to school in old clothes, a coat and a change of footwear
  • After School clubs on Tuesday and Thursday until 4pm - please collect promptly from the School Office
  • X-hail is the turn of Year 3 and Year 5 - I wonder where their adventures will take them this week to ensure maximum relaxation ☁️
  • Our Happiness Heroes Training Part 2 is on Thursday - I can't wait to hear what they have been discussing and talking about 🙂
  • Time for Sport is the turn of Year 4 - children to come to school on Friday in their PE kits 🙂

Xmas Card Deadline reminder date is 16th October so that you can all benefit from 'free delivery' on any orders made.  Details of this have been sent out this week along with a template for you to draw your Xmas Design at home with your family.  🎅

So, with immediate effect, we will no longer allow cakes/sweets etc. from home for a child's birthday.

This is due to the growing number of allergies in school and the introduction of the Nutritional Guidelines and Allergy Guidelines from the DfE.

And that's your lot 🙂

Have a lovely weekend, enjoy yourselves and recharge those batteries ready for another action-packed week next week

Mrs B and the FL Team 🙂
