Following their learning about sustainability, Year 5 studied the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy, who uses natural materials to create his pieces. The children went outside and collected a variety of natural materials from the school grounds. They then created pieces of art based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy.

Science Week

During Science Week, we learned all about sustainability and how we can help to preserve our planet for future generations. We also carried out an investigation into different soils to see if they were acidic, neutral or alkaline. During another day, we made our own plant pots out of newspaper and planted some seeds. We took the seeds home so that we can grow our own food. We had great fun adding different types of food to some natural yoghurt, to find out how they affected taste and texture. Please have a look at some of our photographs.

Look at our fantastic science projects! Well done to the children for all their hard work and thank you to the parents for your fabulous support.

We are learning about the solar system in Science. We have explored the movement of the planets around the sun, the distance of each planet from the sun, how long it takes the earth to orbit the sun, how long it takes the earth to spin on its axis and the status of the planet Pluto. Please ask your child some questions about the solar system. Here are some useful websites:

In Year 5 we have been learning about healthy eating, and how what we eat as a child can impact on our adult life. We have also learnt about the impact of exercise and how to keep our main organs healthy. Have a look at these websites to find out more.

We have also been learning about how humans change during their lifetime. Try this quiz about human development:
