  • Consistently high standards are achieved with pupils aspiring to reach their maximum potential and making good progress  (with pupils developing lively, enquiring minds; the ability to use language and number effectively;  the ability to question and argue rationally and the ability to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills.)
  • Pupils are consistently provided with good quality teaching  (so that their learning is of the highest standard possible, helping pupils to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a fast changing world; to understand the world in which they live and the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations.)
  • Children and children work happily and productively together with pupils receiving guidance and opportunities to extend their personal development (to thus develop personal moral values, respect for religious values, and tolerance of other races, religions and ways of life.  Children also learn to appreciate human achievements and aspirations.)
  • Children are encouraged and supported in their efforts to live a healthy life style.
  • Children are provided with a safe and stimulating environment.
  • Resources are used efficiently and effectively.

We have several "learning areas" in our Nursery...

  • Reading Area:
The Reading Centre offers the children a quiet area to sit and enjoy books and other printed materials. This centre is made attractive and comfortable so as to invite young readers to participate in reading and nurture a love of books, caring for them and handling them correctly.

  • Home Corner:
The Home Centre is an area of the nursery designated to represent a family home. It is the natural setting for the enhancement of social, emotional, language, cognitive and both fine and gross motor development.

  • Listening Area:
The Listening Centre provides the opportunity to expand the children's world of sound, language and music. The children's language development and social interactions are greatly dependent upon their listening abilities.

  • Role Play Centre:
The Role Play Centre changes from time to time to represent various social settings. As with the Home Centre it is a natural setting for the enhancement of, emotional, language, cognitive and both fine and gross motor development.

  • Water and Sand Areas:
These areas are provided to foster children's sensory exploration and are both enjoyable and tactile experiences. Children will explore the properties of sand and water but, as yet, may not be able to label the properties, e.g. displacement, buoyancy etc.

  • Number Area:
The Maths Centre is designed to assist the children in experimenting with basic mathematical concepts as they manipulate the materials and equipment. A wide range of manipulative materials are placed directly onto a work surface where the children stand and play.

  • Creative Area:
In the Creative Centre there are tables, chairs and easels where the children have access to cutting, gluing, painting, chalking, colouring etc. Here the children enjoy their creative experiences and therefore foster self-expression, imagination and creativity.

  • Construction Area:
The Construction Centre offers a wide range of equipment, from large construction blocks to small construction materials. Children are provided with a range of tools to work with, thus enabling them to use their imagination, solve problems, notice similarities and differences.

  • Information Communication Technology:
The children are encouraged to use a variety of I.T. equipment and to have a positive attitude towards modern technology. Opportunities are given for children to improve the fine motor skills that they need in future to work with a keyboard.

  • Speech & Language Centre

    top

Our Speech and Language Centre caters for up to 10 Key Stage 1 pupils who have specific language disorders. Please note that decisions about admission to the Unit are made by the Local Authority's Special Needs Department not the school. The children are drawn from an area of Mid-Staffordshire, many being taxied in, some from as far a field as Stone, Rugeley, Cannock and Perton.

Most children attend as full-time pupils but a small number of pupils are with us for mornings only, returning to their local schools for the afternoon session.

Staff include, Mrs Challinor is the teacher-in-charge of the Centre and she is supported by Mrs Wilson. Our speech therapists are Mrs Bradley and Miss Benedict who make regular weekly visits to the Centre.

    School Uniform

    top

We strongly encourage parents to adopt our school uniform so as to promote in your child a sense of pride and a sense of belonging.
In practice we find that the greater majority of parents are in favour of having a school uniform and a very high proportion of pupils wear the uniform which is:-

    For Boys

    • - White shirt (approximately £4.99)
    • - Royal blue V-necked school sweatshirt (£8.50 available from our school office; £9.50 for the largest sizes) or a royal blue jumper (approx. £8.00).
    • - Black or grey trousers (approx. £8.50).
    • - A red and silver striped tie (available from the school office priced £1.60).

    • For Girls

    • - A white blouse (approximately £4.99)
    • - Grey Skirt knee length (approximately £6.99).
    • - A royal blue school V-necked sweatshirt (£8.50 available from our school office; £9.50 for the largest size) or a royal blue jumper or cardigan (approximately £8.00 from local outlets).

    - A red and silver striped tie (available from the school office priced £1.60).

-Summer Dress, blue background - white print or blue/white small check (approx.£9.00)

(N.B. It is not the policy of Staffordshire County Council Education Committee to make compulsory the wearing of any distinctive clothing or uniform but all pupils are required to attend school appropriately dressed.)
Unusual styles of dress, which may not be appropriate for school activities, are not permitted. For reasons of safety no jewellery should be worn at school, however watches may be worn. In the case of ear-rings, only plain studs should be worn.

If parents are considering having their child's ears pierced we ask that the piercing is done at the beginning of the 6 weeks summer break. In school time children are expected to do P.E. and must be able to remove their own ear studs without help.

To participate fully in physical education the pupil will need:-
    All Children

  • For P.E. lessons Black P.E. Shorts (not beachwear)
  • T-shirt (red, blue or green dependant on House Team)
  • Pumps/Plimsolls (not trainers for indoor use)

    Junior Aged Children
  • For Games or swimming
  • As for P.E. plus:
  • Football boots or strong trainers (Boys) trainers for girls
  • A change of socks
  • Swimming trunks (boys) / Swimsuit (Girls)
  • Bathing cap (all girls and boys with long hair)
  • Track suit or warm clothing for colder days

For Art and Craft protective clothing such as a man's old shirt is recommended especially for third and fourth year children (Protective clothing is provided in earlier years).
