Spring Term

We will be learning about stories with predictable and patterned language/familiar settings plus recounts, diary entries and information texts in connection with Animals and Plants. (Fiction/Non-fiction) Poetry will also cover poems on the themes.

Some books we will be looking at are: 'The 3 Little Pigs', 'The Gingerbread man', Commotion in the Ocean' , 'The whale and the Snail', 'Jaspers Beanstalk' and 'The Hungry Caterpillar'

The children will practice writing through simple sentences ,finger spaces, full stops, capital letters at the start of sentences and for I and starting to use compound sentences using different conjunctions (and, but, because). As well as Question Marks and Exclamation marks

 

As always we will continue to learn about writing skills, spelling rules, grammar and punctuation.

Autumn Term

 

Don't forget! We are celebrating Roald Dahl Day on the 15th September! Come dressed as your favourite Roald Dahl character.

This term in English we are learning all about Exploration and Adventure to compliment our topic and will be focusing  on fiction and non-fiction books.

 

We are learning how to label a diagram,  write a caption to go with it and write lists.

We will also be trying our hand at writing character and setting descriptions.  Part of English includes drama and this will be taught through our story telling or in other subject areas.We will also be looking at Poetry which includes alliteration, pattern and rhythm as well as producing instructions and recounts.

 

As always we will continue to learn about writing skills, spelling rules, grammar and punctuation.
