English

Summer

For the first half term, the children will be studying the book, The Boy The Bear The Baron The Bard. As well as writing narrative pieces such as character and setting descriptions, they will also learn to write letters using formal vocabulary.

The book links with our Topic work and so the children will also be learning about Elizabeth I, Sir Walter Raleigh and William Shakespeare.

In the second half of the term the children will be focusing on a short film from the Literacy Shed called Alma. They will be revising all of the grammar and punctuation skills that they have been learning this year.

Spring 2

For World Book Day in March, the children spent the day solving the 'Mystery of the Missing Pen.'

There were 3 suspects and, in groups, the children had to read many clues, witness statements, police statements and information on mobile phones, emails etc. Towards the end of the day, they all solved the crime!

Spring 1

This half term the children will be focusing on the book 'The Land of Neverendings' which is an amazing fantasy story.

Within the topic they will cover many different genres of writing such as, poetry, balanced arguments and persuasive adverts.

They will also continuing to improve their descriptive writing of characters and settings.

We have great fun learning our spellings! We played Spelling Coordinates so we used our maths skills as well.
